Shri Balan Nambiar appointed as the Acting Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi Print

The Ministry of Culture Government of India has appointed Shri Balan Nambiar as the Acting Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, with immediate effect.

Shri Balan Nambiar (b.1937) is a painter, sculptor, enamellist, photographer and a research scholar on ritual art forms of Kerala and Tulunadu. His articles on ritual artforms have been published in major international journals. The awards he received include the State Award and National Award for his creative works (sculpture) of LKA and Senior Fellowship of the Ministry of Culture of Govt. of India and the Nehru Fellowship for his academic research work. He is a recipient of Academy Fellowship of the Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy. He is a member of Central Advisory Board on Culture (CABC) of the Ministry of Culture, Apex Committee of the NGMA, etc. He has widely traveled and is familiar with national and international art exhibitions and art practices. His latest work (2010) is a monumental sculpture in stainless steel, titled “The Sky is the Limit” for IOC, Delhi.
