The book, as its title Sensibility Objectified suggests, depicts the sculptural sensibility of one of the masters of modern sculpture, Sarbari Roy Choudhury. In this book, writer R Shiv Kumar, introduces the artist subject to the reader through a short but scholarly essay, while the bulk of the volume is devoted to a decade-wise visual depiction of Choudhury’s art. The chronological layout helps readers embark on a journey of discovery, ranging from the fifties, when volumes of form were being melted down into rhythms, by the artist. The sixties decade depicts Choudhury’s dalliance with the female figure, followed by an understanding of female sensuality. Later, musician portraits took centre stage. The sharp focus and angle of the photographic depictions delight casual browsers and serious learners alike. |
