Knife and Chilli

Title of Work: Knife and Chilli

“I stick to common man-made objects as subjects for my art creations, such as items found in the kitchen - a knife, a chilli or a matchstick. I feel a sort of attachment towards them. They are a non-presence but we miss their presence when they are not available. The compositional value of these objects is very simple so they help in keeping the background of my paintings very serene, simple and open. They provide the visual language of my thought process in art. The use of greys, dull yellows and browns is deliberate. I don’t use red. The softness of this colour palette brings out the character of the simple object in the foreground and shows that as an artist I am not concerned with the utility of an object; my concern is with the beauty in its character.”
